Engine Mounts (weber)

Hi
I?m back on this very helpful forum?..because I need some technical advice ;-)

I have just seen the engine mount under the Webber on my +2 (1973) is broken, (I?m quite surprised because I have changed the both 2000 km ago?.)
I need to replace it very quickly because I have a rally next week end. An order at usual dealer in UK may be too long..

Do you know if the right engine mount is similar to another British part (MG or Triumph?.)?

In France, the problem is always the same, a lot of dealers for MG or Triumph parts, but nothing for Lotus. I?m always obliged to buy at PM Sport, TTR or Chris Neil ?.

No, it is not even the same as Ford one on the exhaust side, it is Lotus only part as it lifts the carb side of the engine.
If you have a Spyder chassis I believe they use the same ones (Ford)

Original source of the mounts was the Ford Anglia I believe. Dont think used on any other common car.

If necessary to get running get a rubber block cut that fits in the top of the mount. An old tyre is a suitable source of a chunk of rubber. Jack up the engine and glue the block in place. It should be adequate for a short while until you can get a new mount. I always carry 2 spare mounts in my race spares kit to avoid this sort of problem as mount failure can be unpredictable as you observe.

Thanks for your quick answer!

A friend of mine has just found an used engine mout in his old stock. It isn't new but it is looking not so bad...it'll do the job for few months

I'll order a new set at PM Sport.

Have you ask every french Lotus sp?cialists ?
I am nearly sure than someone like Tony Kilburn (Clamart) always have this kind of spare in stock , as he had for my Elan ...
If you order new ones , always change them both and try to avoid to extend them during this difficut exercice and think about changing the one on top of gear box ...
You can also try reinforced ones , having the original space filled with extra rubber ... TTR race mounting "for race only" are too close to solid , and have to be reserved for track racers ...

From what I hear, Paul Matty and others are having a high rate of early failure in their present stock of engine mounts. It's suggested that current permissible rubber mixes are no longer up to the job - not good news at all.

Hi,
I have bought the current engine mount at Chris Neil, the right is broken after less than 4000 km ( very quiet KM after an engine rebuilt...)

Hi,

During rebulding my elan S4, i'have change the 2 engine mount by new model drom Paul Matty. After the first 100 Kilometers, they failed totaly
(Split between metal and rubber) I choose to refit the original old.
Without problem... Apparently non answer from PM

Has anyone experience with TTR mount in a roadcar ?

Hi Jerome,

I fitted TTr's standard road mounts (not the competition ones) to my Sprint last winter.

They are standard, but reinforced (according to the catalogue).
TTR part no: TTREA 009, about ?40/pair + VAT.

The old o/s mount was showing signs of the rubber debonding from the metal mount.

As usual with this type of component, I replaced the pair, and kept the 'goodie' for an emergency.

So far no problems, but only done about 1500 miles !
