PostPost by: john.p.clegg » Wed Mar 29, 2006 6:17 am

Morning All

Maybe this should be posted in the Racing section but here goes...
The ABS system if fully bedded-in and working well for the past few years,so,now I am after another project
The plan I have now is to fit Engine management to the plus 2,I am thinking of MegasquirtIII at the moment.

Have any listers done this?

Any advice etc. most welcome

Thanks
John

Hi John,
I have also been wondering about this (although a new engine bottom end based on a 711m block comes first!).
I have been wondering whether fuel injection can be fitted while retaining the dellortos for the butterfly while making up fatter spacers between carb and manifold to put the injectors into...
What do you think?
Cheers

true..
The other option I have seen involved cutting the Dellortos in half! leaving behind just the bit with the butterfly

You should use http://www.emeraldm3d.com/ I have only ever been told good things about the product and chap who runs the company. I know a few Elise drivers who have this system and they all speak very highly of it.

I have the Emerald system on my Zetec Plus 2. I had it mapped this morning at Redline in Iver and the guy there said it was a bit more complicated to set up than other systems, but all the same he got 170bhp from my (so far) standard engine.

Had very complimentary things to say about the Megasquirt though, which was encouraging as I'm thinking about using it to run my series 3 Land Rover.

There is currently a series of articles in "practical performance car" on adding EFI and angine management to older engines..
Worth a read...

Well it looks like at least three are going down the EFI route, myself Tim and Brian so I thought I'd dig out one of the old posts and see if it attracts any more posts......running wasted spark was the best engine improvement I've ever made (balancing carbs, fitting luminition, altering cam timimg,etc.etc.) the engine is as smooth as butter and pulls like a train....as the chap following me down to Donnington last year remarked...

Hi guys,
Practical Performance car magazine is a little difficult to find in my area.
Can one of you post the articles?
Thanks,

Hi all...
Just been for my first run in the +2 with ignition running using a Megasquirt ECU..
Quite a difference...
My old Dizzy was probably quite warn, but the MS ECU run system is certainly a load smoother.
Also starts on all cylinders and the sparks it produces are like lightening!!
one happy bunny :P
No for the fuel system (although it seems a shame as the dellys are running beautifully at the mo)
Cheers

I'm well advanced on my conversion - at the stage of assembling the loom.

I did a lot of 'research' regarding the ECU and finally went for Omex.

The majority of my research was on Megasquirt as it fitted my overall budget. However, some informed advice from three tuners with Megasqirt experiences really put me off the idea.

Taking advice from three other well known rolling road tuners, I came to the conclusion that there was nothing to choose between the major ECU suppliers highlighted on the Jenvey website ? and the one to choose was the one with which you could do the best deal. If anyone is interested, please PM me for the reason I chose Omex.
