improving the standard plus two fuel tank

PostPost by: bengalcharlie » Sat Feb 25, 2006 3:00 am

Hi,

Has anyone experience with improving the plus two fuel tank?
I have made animprovement already by connecting the breather hose directly to the filler neck hose and blanking off the other breather hole at the fuel tank.
I am considering moving the petrol line bolt from underneath the tank to the top of the tank in order to avoid the petrol smell due to petrol seeping through the seam
the same applies to the fuel sensor which is now mounted halfway up the tank.
alternatively you could make a new tank either in aluminium or stainless to you own specs.
I would like to hear from anyone with his/her own experience.

Hi Robin

I hear that Spyder sell a modification for the fuel filler neck/ breather. You may want to drop them an email as I would have thought they would have done any mods if they thought it could improve the vehicle (and push up the selling price).

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your info.
I will have a look to see what they offer and go from there.
Realistically I won't order parts form the UK only if I have to due to the freight costs involved.
It is cheaper to have it made locally, it still amazes me the amount of skills and small specialised bussinesses available in NZ.
if I come to something that works I will post it later on.

Hi Robin, have a look at : http://www.clublotusbboa.co.uk website, and chuck up the newsletters, then number 5 of 2003. Scroll thru to page 10 and read the Ken Ind article on how he solved the smell problem. Much same as idea as you but still with small diam breather pipe ? rgds. john
