I have a stromberg euro spec head and currently run the original airbox with a KN filter in the nose. Does your theory also apply to the stromberg head?? Would I gain power by switching to trumpets ( the stromberg does not have trumpets fitted) with socks? secondly where could I buy such a set? preference would be in the US or nz/Australia.
Cheers
Robin
PS for a while I drove the car with the KN filter directly mounted to my airbox and I loved the induction roar but I switched back because the filter would hit the bonnet.
Hi Robin
The strombergs do not benefit from trying to tune the induction length with trumpets due to the siamiesed ports and piston in the carb. Without the trumpets they also dont suffer from the airbox being to shallow at the back like the Webers do.
The piston and float chamber vent to the airbox via ports in the front of the carb so they are not affected by changes in inlet pressure drop in the same way Webers are not
Having said all that - a good quality flared inlet trumpet with a good clearance direct attached filter or airbox will assist flow a little compared to a plain flat face.
Any good race shop should be able to supply trumpets for a SU which will also bolt onto a Stromberg I think as the bolt patterns are the same and also socks to fit over them
cheersRohan

Thanks again Rohan for explaning the differences in stromberg/weber heads with regards to the rampipes/filters to use/not to use.
I bought a pair of brand new SU175 carbs years ago and one day I will try these with some rampipes. Just for fun, my stromberg setup is performing really well but I miss the induction noise at present.
Only one small issue I still have to fix. My pistons with variable needles let the damper oil seep away. I tried to fix this by replacing the oil ring at the bottom of this damper tube but I might not have used the correct oil ring.I can not remember correctly what I did, it is so long ago! Not a biggie but ever so often I have to add some damper oil.
cheers
