Braided fuel hose

I intend to replace the mechanical pump with an electric one.

In order to re-use the after market braided Webber fuel line, I need to find a female connector, suitable to fit the male olive fitting on the webber braided hose that originally screwed into the old mechanical pump, to adapt to the new supply pipe from the electric pump - This is to be an 8mm braided stainless steel line.

Does anybody have an ideas where I can obtain one new, or "adapt" a used one from perhaps some other fitting ?

I've drawn a blank so far!

Picture attached to remind what the male end of the Webber pipe looks like.

All suggestions welcomed.

You don't happen to know what type the thread is, do you, NPT, UNF, etc ?

Unfortunately not but if you measure the pitch and outside diameter of the thread I am sure someone on the forum will help to identify it for you or you could check this link.

If it is rubber pipe inside that braid you need to check that it is ethanol resistant. Otherwise you will be better off geting that remade.

My wholesaler can probably make up a new one for you. He recently purchased professional equipment to manufacture brake, fuel, and hydraulic hoses. Swedged ends, braided or un-braided lines. IIRC, the investment was north of US $20,000. Drop me a line for contact info.

Thanks to all who have tried to help, with great suggestions.

Just thought I'd let you know that the fountain of knowledge in this area appears to be drying up !

Unfortunately, none of the companies or people contacted appear to have knowledge of the type of thread.

A couple remembered the old Ford AC Delco glass bowl mechanical pump, but that's about it !

I was hoping not to have to go down the route of checking with a thread gauge, or sending the pump or Webber hose through the post as a sample, assuming that with the Forty(odd) Million cars produced with this type of pump and fittings, that someone might have a recollection of the info I require !

Not so, so far!

I could cut the end off the Hose and use a male/male hose connector, but would prefer to keep the ?80 Webber braided hose intact?

May still have to resort to the Junior hacksaw !

Any final ideas ?

I think I used a straightforward Wade type connector in place of the pump. I certainly still have the original fuel line and carb supply pipe.

I will have a look tomorrow and poss take some pics for you.. Try visiting a good pipe fittings company and take the old pump and carb' pipe with you. I did and they sorted me out no problem.

Hi there

I'm pretty sure that the thread on that union (that screws into the fuel pump body) is a UNF thread. I had to change my fuel pipe a while ago (whilst the tank was full!) and I needed to block the port in the fuel pump. In my desperation I tried various bolts and a UNF bolt was a perfect fit and with thread tape gave a good seal. I can't remember the diameter I'm thinking either 3/8" or 7/16" but should be fairly easy for you to try.

You could try a local air tools specialist- they usually carry a pretty wide range of fittings.

No an engineer would use a rule and tap, and be berated by a technician for not using a vernier and a thread gauge.

No a tap is a good idea - if it was not 1/2 UNF before.... it is now - so your measurement will always be correct
We engineers always get it right :lol:
