Removing the floats on Dellortos

PostPost by: alaric » Mon Oct 29, 2012 11:36 pm

Hi all. I'm doing a quick overhaul on the Dellortos, and need to remove the pin that the floats hang from. I'm concerned that if I push too hard I'll break the pedestals, especially the split one. Any tips on how to remove the pin without breaking anything would be appreciated.

The posted link is easy to understand- a picture really is worth... etc!

If the pin does not move with a light tap, you can ease the gap gently with a screwdriver, the onus being on the word gently! Remember the pin is only held at one end, the plain hole is for location only.

The most fiddly bit is bending the tabs to set the float height, take your time.

Thanks guys. I wasn't sure if the plain hole clamped the pin or not, so thanks for clearing that up for me. The carbs are easy to take apart otherwise but I have read that the split pedestal is a common failure point. I want the carbs back together before the weekend so'll get this done tomorrow.

Clean, with great care that you don't lose it. The tiny ball & spring that are the non-return valve in the accelerator pump.

Yes the ball bearings are receiving extra special care. Thanks for the tip though. Too many times on this car simple jobs have exploded to major ones...
