45 Weber Petrol leak

On the way to the Malvern show, the car was spitting back through the carbs from time to time
(seemed to be worse when off the cams, rather than on the power).
Coming back from the Malvern show, much the same, but within 15 miles from home I smelt petrol.
BTW varied the revs/speed between 70 and sometimes 95 mph along the way.
Back in the garage, no smell from the boot/filler area.
Raised the bonnet and smell was obvious.
No leaks around hose unions to carbs.
No obvious leaks from fuel pump inlet/outlet.
Some (small) evidence of wet fuel in the carb outer cover.
Some (small) evidence of wetness in the trumpets.
All plugs look even ie a little rich mixture (maybe nr4 worst - not unusual)
What I have found is a mix of petrol/oil (at least that's what it seems) on the underside of both carbs
The oil in this mix is CLEAN - not a black mixture.
Any ideas chaps ?
Regards,
Stuart.

Stuart,
Keith Franck is currently discusing this problem on his side draft central site. Just posted pics of his "fix" for the 45's.
