Pipercross Airbox and Cover

PostPost by: nico506 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 7:57 pm

Hi All,
I am in need of a new backplate and cover for the airbox on my 1968 SE Elan as the orginal ( round shape) was missing and have been looking at the Pipercross Arbox and Backplate assembly on the web and ask if anyone has fitted one with any difficulty as I am told the new backplate and airbox for my car is hard to source ?- is this correct ?

Thanks in advance for help on this query.

Which carbs are fitted to your car? If they are Webers then all the parts required are available.

I would also be interested in any suggestions - I have Webers and the original backplate has rusted out in a couple of places. Sue Miller doesn't have any backplates - I haven't tred anyone else yet. Tony Thompson does a complete set with backplate, airbox, trunking and filter. It initilaly sounds quite expensive at around ?300 but if you add all the individual parts up it is probably reasonable.

I'd be prepared to swap a "Mk 2" square backplate (for Webers) for an earlier "Mk 1" rounded one.
