PostPost by: 1963 S1 » Thu May 25, 2023 2:55 pm

Hello,
I'm looking for an NOS Lucas RB340 25 Amp voltage regulator. If you have one for sale or may know of a vendor that does, please let me know. Thank you.

Richard,

A number of the usual suspects sell RB340 copies. Does it have to be a genuine Lucas unit?

Thank you for your replies. So far I've only been able to find one vendor selling knock-off 25Amp regulators. The most common version available is the 22Amp model, and can be sourced from trusted suppliers.

Dan I'll reach out to you. Thank you.

Dan did not have a spare RB340 25Amp regulator. Thank you Dan for checking your spares.

My search continues. If anyone has one they are willing to part with please let me know.

Richard,

As far as I can see, a 22amp control will work with a 25amp dynamo, you just won't get the full 25amps output from the dynamo.

Are you hoping the squeeze the last 3 amps out of the system?

Thanks Andy. Yes, I'm trying to provide the full potential for the C40L generator and downstream accessories.

I'm still searching for an RB 340 25 Amp regulator; where the following Lucas part numbers should work: 37342, 37498, 37529, 37543, 37568, and 37574.

Richard,

Depending on how keen you are feeling, it looks straightforward to adjust the current output of the regulator. Lucas did an excellent series of field service manuals, the one below is for the RB340.

https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/pdf/lucas.pdf

Page 21 has a schematic of the RB340 innards, and page 19 explains how to adjust the current regulator.

I would guess that the 22 and 25 amp versions of the RB340 have the same innards, but are adjusted differently. A bit of fiddling should be able to turn a 22amp version into a 25amp version.

Good luck.

Thank you, Dan, for offering a 22Amp version. I may attempt Andy's suggestion via the literature he shared.

If anyone has a 25Amp Lucas RB340 voltage regulator, please let me know. Thank you in advance to the LotusElan.net community.
