How long has your friends Elan been in Indiana?

I lived in Columbus Indiana in 1974 to 75. I bought the only street Elan in the area in Sept '74 and soon became friends w/ the race shop that was in one of the warehouses of the family owned furniture store. I probably have some record of the shop's name, but not immediately at hand. Their primary business was prepping about 4 or 5 formula Fords for SCCA nationals, but the owner of the furniture business had a racing Elan. I watched one evening while the shop cut out the original fiberglass floor to be replaced w/ aluminum sheet. The Elan didn't get a whole lot of attention.

The Elan's owner lived in Bloomington IIRC and over the Christmas holidays, they attended a party in Columbus and on the return trip home, they flipped their fabric topped 911 Targa and I think neither were wearing seatbelts and both husband and wife were ejected. Pretty sure they survived, but both were parialised. I never saw either again and now the Elan was pushed out of the shop. I moved back to Columbus Ohio in April and lost all contact with the shop.

Is there any way this could be your friend's Elan?

I don't believe he bought the car in Indiana. The shop was in Columbus where they pushed out the elan?

So, does your friend's Elan have an aluminum floor? How long has he had it? Your friend isn't in a wheelchair, is he?

No to both. I don't know how long he's had it. So if you're back in Columbus any sign of the body?

In June 1974 The Ohio State University granted me a BSME which among other things got me in the door at Cummins engine Co. But I soon found I was not happy w/ Columbus Indiana. So, we moved from Columbus Ohio to Columbus Indiana and back to Ohio in less than a year. I've been back to Columbus Indiana twice since then, once to assist and monitor a regional SCCA stage rally and several years later to visit an engineering friend who had also been tempted by Cummins. He left the day his contract expired.

So, I don't think there are many things to cause me to return.

Why does your friends Elan require a new body? Is it really that bad? Is it a factory built 26R? How about some photos and more detailed info? You may respond by PM if you prefer.
