+2 1/4 light base channels

PostPost by: wotsisname » Sun Jul 19, 2020 4:38 pm

Hi all, wondering if anyone has a pair (or even a single) of the base channels for the door frame quarter lights, that they are willing to part with. Useable ,sound condition required.. Happy to deal with any surface/cosmetic issues. What have you got ?
This is for a plus 2 (68, although I doubt they varied). am based in the UK.
regards
Adrian.

plus2 door assembly.PNG and
plus 2 door assembly

Hi, it is part number #3, the base channel , that I seek. There is a separate RH & LH part.
if anyone has a suitable dimensioned drawing then that may be an alternative avenue I can try.

Many thanks

i have the complete door window frames & 1/4 light glass taken from a donor car for sale on my "hobby" website, however i don't think you'll entertain shipping across the pond... :(

Ted, thanks for the suggestion.. I'm hoping I can source something locally... if not I may have to try to get something made... There's a door frame on ebay, but the condition of the base channel doesn't tempt me.

You could try calling Vincent Haydon on 01590 630189, I know he had some re-productions made not so long ago, can't remember the price but might be worth a ring, Paul.

Thanks all for your replies.

I purchased a pair of these from Vincent, some years ago and did not get around to fitting them at that time.

I have been struggling to make them fit.. I think the whole lot needs dismantling and re-welding. I don't have the equipment nor skill to do this. The front "L" fitting does not follow the line of curve and the rear "L" is mounted about 5mm too far aft. In the interests of getting the car back on the road I thought I'd try to find an alternative source or a used pair that are known to fit. SJ & Sue Miller do not have them currently.

Good news (I hope) is that Kelvedon stock these currently. I spoke with Doug who tells me they've sold a few over the years, with no returns... so fingers crossed.

Brian thanks for the link to the drawing.... I am hoping now that I don't need it..but I think I will compare it with the better of my two original items (the one that is in only one piece - just).

That's bad news as I bought one that I was planning to fit this summer!

if you have access to welding I think you can make it fit. I have one side that has not completely gone so have a pattern. I wish you luck. They are certainly not cheap.

I fitted the original back in place and held it with tie wraps and rivets (just loose) and have then put a block of wood in the quarter light frame to hold it correctly... so I have at least something to aim at.
