Lotus Elan

Combined wiper/washer switch for S2 Elan

PostPost by: one-two » Sat Jul 11, 2020 12:44 pm

Hi, would like to buy a good, working original-type combined wiper/washer switch for an S2 Elan. Happy with good used or repro part as long as it looks correct and works. Grateful for any suggestions. Many thanks, Robert

I’m pretty sure I still have two in storage.
One has a rubber diaphragm, and you push on the knob to wash the windscreen.
The other has an electric switch, it is used to activate an electric pump to wash the wind screen.

Both are in excellent condition, and can be furnished with or without the OEM lotus knobs. Both are in excellent condition, and can be furnished with or without the OEM lotus knobs. These are used Europa parts. Let me know if you’re interested.

My car has no electric pump. It requires the one with the rubber diaphragm. I'm in Philadelphia. Any idea how I may buy it?

I guess an orderly queue might form at this point? Hi Steve, I am also interested in the "push" version - could you confirm that the Europa and Elan parts are the same or very similar? Could you also let me have a price please - feel free to PM or email if you prefer. Many thanks, Robert

Hi John, many thanks - as per my original post, happy with anything that looks correct and works. Is the Triumph part a good replacement? Can I fit the Lotus knob to it?

Looking at the stem, it looks like there is no spring loaded pin , just a sprong hump...Edit sprung hump ??

The push knob/rubber diaphragm versions do come up on ebay and other sites occasionally. Mine was missing and I managed to get a replacement, I believe it was from the Mk 1 cortina, but may also have been on Anglias as well.

if the behind the dash is less important, then you might look at TR6 items. I found a 2 speed, with push in microswitch instead of pump. this was fitted to TR6 for the canadian market in 1973-76 only. I have this for my +2 with a small under bonnet pump. The original knob fits fine, although I think I slightly eased the metal rod with a file. I seem to remember that there were pump types also. try James Paddock.. pn 635-772 or 155496.
The part that protrudes through the dash is plastic. After a long hunt, the thread is 1/2-28UNEF...
try any spies or contract killers you know as they are a gun suppressor fitting.. also used on audio equipment.

Sorry for the delay. I never received any of the follow up posts or replies, but just stumbled upon them now in the for sale section. The Elan Forum doesn’t like me for some reason. Maybe it’s my email address.

Anyway, if someone still needs the wiper washer switch pump, you can try and PM me. Of course, I have no idea if I’ll get the message.

Yes, the pump is the same one as used on the lawn, and there is a new old stock one listed in Australia for about $275.

As a further observation - no doubt others know this already - I found my S1 wiper switch was variable speed, but a later version, believed to be from an S3, was two-speed. In case it matters to anyone ...
