Casting date code on my block is 8 G 1, so July 1st 1968 so ties in close enough to the build date for the car in November 68.

And the engine number that hopefully is genuine. On the V5 this engine number has 8J16 at the end although I don't see this anywhere on the engine. Would this indicate the assembly date for the engine ?, September 16th 1968 ?. Again this would tie in with the November build date for the car.

An often found block in this era of Elan is the 681F, one identifying feature is the inclusion of the web for a dipstick, needed for the rear bowl sump, I think MK 1 Escort.
