A big shout out for Steve at Cool Experts & their Radiators

PostPost by: pharriso » Tue Sep 28, 2021 1:53 pm

I've seen all the postings on here about Cool Experts in Notts & since a) I was travelling back to Notts & b) wanted a radiator since I suspected my current one was partially blocked I thought I would give Steve a try.

I e-mailed Steve ahead of coming back to the UK, he was helpful & explained all the options:
1. Have my existing Radiator rebuilt in 48 hours or take a unit from stock
2. Have lugs welded on for his low profile fan(s) or not
3. Keep my existing fan switch, or go with his 22mm switch
4. Polished header tank or painted black
5. New drain tap or plugged

I opted for the "Fat Boy" radiator with new fan switch.

I dropped off my existing radiator & a spare (for which I got credit) last Monday & it was rebuilt & ready for pick up on Thursday as promised.

It's now installed in my Elan & I am pleased with the fit & performance.

Steve sells through his own website ( https://www.coolexperts.co.uk/product/s3-s4-sprint-se-2-2s-covrad-small-new/ ) & on eBay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_dmd= ... _nkw=lotus ). Price of the Fat Boy radiator is GBP150 + VAT if required, cheaper than most sources in the UK & substantially cheaper than replacement radiators in the US.

Cool Experts can supply radiators for most, if not all Lotus Elans.

I bought an all alloy Coolex rad for the Elise and it's been great. Fair price too.

How did you transport the radiators there and back and how was Customs handled? "parts not for resale" presumably?
We are supposed to be having fun, are we not?

Yes , I can endorse Steve & the Lads ... we`ve had over 20 Fat Boys ( & other rad`s ) over the years within our local area ... & nobody has over heated ;-) !

I`m about to take 2 more rad`s to him for upgrade ... & if you have their modern fan flush mounted to the rad` , it`s much easier ( & safer ) removing the bonnet spring !

2 Radiators taken to the UK as personal luggage packed in a suitcase  rebuilt radiator returned packed in a box. Customs agent did ask a value, but way less than the $800 personal allowance.

If you're having your radiator rebuilt duty should not be an issue.
