If you haven't come across it, Google allows you to search a specific site, and with their resources is far better than the native search function. Try this -

brain fade on the google image search that works a treat .. Duh!

My engine bay won't inspire anyone, but hey everything in there works (to my knowledge, today, at this moment).

Here is a side-by-side from last year/this year:

Is that a removable cover over the pedals?

Is there a reason almost all engine bays are black and not body coloured is this to do with heat.

As original from the factory. At least on my S4.
Not sure of any logic behind it other than Lotus did not finish this area and just painted it over black.

Engine bays should be black.
In the early days of the Elan, Himself wanted to put the front number plate on the air intake grill, so as not to spoil the lines of the front of the car.
He negotiated with the Ministry Of Transport who agreed to the request provided the front interior of the car was painted black in contrast with the white letters to help with their clarity. That requirement still stands.
All the background to the lettering must be black.
That is how I understand it.

Thanks for the info, I'm painting my shell just now and I was looking at how the engine bays are Finished. You dont see many body coloured. I think I'll make the top half body colour but leave the inside of the nose cone and bellow the join in the bay black.

Be careful ! The mere mention of body colour in the engine bay will incur the wrath of the purists police
