Recup Bottle Location (Plus 2)

PostPost by: fatal3rror » Sat Aug 15, 2020 12:52 pm

Just got a new recup bottle and carrier from Moss to install in my newly acquired Plus 2 which did not come with one. Struggling to find the best location for this as the bottle is much bigger than I thought!

From pictures online, I have seen a mix of:
A) Near the radiator cap just behind the radiator
B) near the radiator cap just in front
C) at the lower end of the radiator close to the air intake

Can I suggest a different approach to this.
You appear to have a suitable space just there below the overflow tube and near the air intake hose.
Measure that space and then find a plastic bottle to fit.
I found a bottle 2 and1/2" square and 6" long which did the job nicely.
look for a suitable bottle in the hardware shop containing something you can use and decant it into something else. I appreciate that this is not `correct`, but you are not changing anything on the car.
Best of luck

On my January 1970 +2S the bottle is mounted on the front face of the radiator bracket (fan side). However, the workshop manual says that the bottle has been repositioned on current production models (date at bottom of page 1170), with instructions for how to move the bottle to the rear face. So it looks like the position changed sometime during 1970...

Collected loads of pictures for research on my rebuild and the attached seems to be pretty typical. Not my car I might add.

I don't have the manual yet. Could you share the instructions?

A close up on how the carrier is mounted would be really helpful is possible!

Thanks Eric, seems like a sensible solution but trying to stick to the original if possible. Especially given I have forked out ££ for the carrier and the bottle already!

Yes, I realise that my suggestion is not very appropriate for you, but I am thinking that many other owners will read this, Mine looks the part and fits the space and cost nothing.
Thanks

My 130/5 had it in this location and I'm pretty sure it is the original place. The car was very original apart from the Spyder chassis.

When I got my car it was in front of the radiator, but the car was running without the hose to the air cleaner. I repositioned it similar to the revised position in the manual, behind the radiator, but as my car has a full width radiator I made my own mounting bracket that secured to the right side chassis mounting bolt that secures to the suspension tower.

It's riveted to the rad-mount.
