It doesn't matter about the angle only the vertical height from the sump gasket face.

It's all about the Hypotenuse.. imagine the dipstick as the hypotenuse of a right angle triangle with the oil surface as the lower side and the line from the top of the dipstick tube to the surface of the oil as the other side.

As the angle of the dipstick changes, the Hypotenuse drawn by the dipstick gets longer and the fixed oil marks change their heights in relation to the surface of the oil..

Pretty minimal unless the angle is massively different. If required, I'm sure you could work out a change in height per degree change in dipstick angle.. but I've got a beer that needs to be finished.

This is the difference after re-calibrating. A proper maths explanation, Jeremy!

Are you saying Nigel, that Bob is your actual uncle?

And Fanny is your Aunt.
I didn't imagine the angle of dangle was sooooo important.
Talk about splitting hairs

This is an empirical observation. On the available evidence I cannot say whether either the old or new dipstick tube height was correct, or what difference the angle made; only that the measured oil height, when correct is different from the mark. I take it the oil was at the factory standard oil temperature for correct calibration, as this would affect the level (the colder the oil, the lower the level for a given volume).

Now wish me luck as I have to go and fetch my wife's mother for a glorious, fun filled two weeks over Christmas.. and I have an engine to fit.
