COMETIC seems to work --- B U T now i have to confess:

PostPost by: el-saturn » Tue Jun 11, 2019 5:07 pm

.........................last time i put the engine together i had to turn the waterpump flansh around - i used a puller and heated the flansh B U T in the process maybe some of the RTV / wellseal sealants resp. the seals (around waterpump) could have broken. this would allow cooling water to enter the timing case. ----------------------------- free cream sandy

Sandy, for F***cks sake, just create 1 thread & update it, we don't need 5 or 6 different threads on the same topic!
I for one will not be reading them all....

as this was my last post, COMETIC D O E S N ' T work - same cylinders wet. everybody told me to stick with an ajusa - will do. my dealer hopefully has a 85mm version in stock. i controlled all surfaces: the block: can't even see light. and head (between cylinders) i can slip 0,0015" thru (0,0361) Sandy ---- i dont really this its the waterpump, becaause the cylinders wouldnt be full of water

Check that the bolt holes (threads) in the block are clear and that the head bolts are not bottoming out. What can happen is you reach the required torque but the bolts have actually not gone down far enough to compress the gasket fully. Nothing wrong with Adjusa gaskets by the way.

Or that the bolts have not elongated.

Cheers

Check old gasket thickness for equal compression, use engineer?s blue or the like and scrape both head and block for flatness.

I'd certainly be looking at the cylinder bores in the block, at least the ones which are getting wet.

head allows the 0.0015 gauge thru, but only between the cylinders (1 inch length x 3) - otherwise flat - the block is probably within 0.0001mm (you can't see light) sandy

Sandy, you seem determined to build an unreliable engine!! Clearly you enjoy the adrenaline rush of not knowing if the next key turn will wreck your engine

Hi Sandy, it may be worth having a look at my post on head gasket sizes - 84mm vs 85mm. What size are your pistons? At +60 on mine - I concluded the 85mm gasket is too big.

Just reporting my experience with them.

PS Sandy, at least your workshop has a roof and no passing spectators willing to offer advice! :)

jeremy - you really are exposed to everything, it even rains sometimes in england! ---- reminds me of my 1st legal car i had (alfa giula super 1600), having the same type of garage / = parking lot. the goood thing is: the swiss are car-unfriendly, so you don't get any stupid, unwanted advice!! Sandy ps try changing oil: i did, they say nothing, but brits may however ask u if u find this "sustainable"!?!?! your lovely car deserves a nicer home though imo
