I'd suggest you measure your valve diameters and also CC your combustion chambers and pistons to determine what compression ratio you have - those flat top pistons may mean you have a low compression ratio which doesn't help with performance. More photos would be helpful. Be careful with those JP pistons if you want to upgrade the RPM and performance potential. They weren't particularly high performance pistons and are probably cast rather forged. Better alternatives are now available.

2cams70, Thanks for your input. I have all intentions of measuring the valves and cc the combustion chambers, when I get to that stage.
I agree, why flat top pistons? Can't understand lowering the compression unless a supercharger would be used. Being in the States there are many manufacturers of quality pistons I can choose from.

So, here's what the head looks like. As I previously mentioned the engine supposedly had only 100+ miles on it when the car it was in was totaled. Of course the more I get into it the more I am sure it had more and it was running ridiculously fat! Oh well, at least the block looks OK, nothing a hot tank and a light honing won't fix. Fun stuff!
