Just to conclude the issue with the incorrect thread size on the tensioner adjuster nut this was solved by running a 5/8" UNC die nut over the threads of the reproduction part to correct them. Quite a bit of material was shaved off in doing so. The correct thread size is definitely 5/8" UNC and not 5/8" BSW. This was confirmed by measurement and it's also stated as being the thread size in the Lotus - Ford workshop manual.
Three different nuts from two obviously different suppliers and all had the incorrect thread size. Who copied who??!!

Just another tip with this one. Don't replace the screw that holds the backplate to the front of the block with the cap head replacement screw supplied in the Burtons kit. Retain the original conventional hex headed bolt instead. If you replace with the cap head screw you can't get in there with a ring spanner whilst the front cover is loosely in place for fine positional adjustment of the backplate relative to the front cover. Do an initial trial assembly with this screw loosely installed. Install the front cover loosely and check everything aligns correctly - front cover oil seal relative the crank centre, backplate relative to block, front cover relative to backplate. When all is correct nip this bolt up with a ring spanner through the sump side opening between backplate and cover so the backplate doesn't move. You want to adjust things so as to minimize any step between the backplate and the front cover. Once all is good remove the front cover again and then properly torque this bolt with a torque wrench so the backplate is retained in it's final alignment position.
