Hi guys, sorry if I?m rehashing an thread that was in January.
I?ve been lurking around for a while and currently have a Caterham fitted with what is a heavily tweaked Twin Cam. The engine?s origin is From 68 Plus 2, now with 10.9 comp, 1.6?and 1.4? valves ported within a mm of it?s life I got it like that. Stock bottom end with ARP bolts, 53.5mm bores and fully sleeved, D type cams.
I?ve fitted it with a 123 Dizzy and this is the map it came with.
I haven?t started it yet but I thought I get thoughts.

I assume you are using premium Unleaded

I would start with 12 crank degrees static advance. I would have a dynamic advance to a maximum of 20 crank degrees with a straight line curve from 1000 crank rpm to 3500 crank rpm.

This give a total maximum advance of 32 crank degrees at 3500 rpm.

Need to put it on a dyno or do some trial and error road testing to further optimise

cheers
Rohan

Rohan, thanks for your input, I agree with the 12 static, whoever if you look at mapped ignition systems the curves are rarely straight, so I?m going to leave it as it is.
interestingly this unit also has the vacuume sensor but I have yet to determine the benefit of integrating any vacuumed advance.
Finally Yes I?m using 98, only for the knock component to, the higher obtain fuels from what I?ve read have a slower flame speed so a dyno will de interesting.
The engine builder who races TC?s has recommended no more than 29 total advance, which seems be a concensus with the sprint engines, and mainly to be safe.

cheers Graeme

Followup on the 123 Ignition, I left the program as is and I'm very impressed with it. Its also much tidier setup than the Luminition, but that is just the advancement in tech.
The way the car starts is amazing, given the advance is virtually zero at turn over.
The map is pre rev limited to 6,000. but Ill leave it there while I run the engine in and sort out the jetting.

As for driving the jetting as I said not good at light throttle ( transition) its quite lean and spitting back so I plan to go up from 45F9 to 50F9 and may be up one more pump size from 45 to 50s.

let the fun begin
