Greasing the ring gear?

As I`m replacing my starter motor, is it a good idea to grease the teeth on the flywheel ring gear or not? Will the grease just get flung off or attract dirt?

You can buy a motor cycle chain lube spray which deposits a none sticky lube layer that adheres to the ring gear and starter pinion when it drys. i have used it in the past when using the old bendix style starter and it seemed to minimise wear and damage. Since I changed to pre-engage starters the wear seems minimal and I have not bothered with the lube on the ring gear ( as its a pain to apply regularly on the ring gear through the both closing plate) but I do the starter gear whenever I pull the starter.

Probably not necessary to do but I treated it more as an experiment and it has some small benefit

cheers
