Shaun

I replaced the exhaust manifold studs with 5/16 in. Allen head cap screws. Another obstacle removed!

I thought the same and the bolts to keep the water plugs in too.

Not seeing an engine earth, do you have a cunning plan for that?

Looks like an extremely well done job so far.

There?s loads to sort out yet , lots of thing still not tightened up , used k nuts on manifold made getting in those awkward places a lot easier

Why do you keep starting new threads? makes your build hard to follow (can't subscribe to a thread)

Hi Shaun, very nice job. The only thing I noticed is that the design of the engine mounts doesn't allow for much cushioning of engine movement and vibration. I personally would be concerned about the additional stress put on the chassis engine mounts. Like yourself, I have splined U/J drive shafts. Are your's Tony Thompson ones?

Shaun,

Could you provide more details of the engine mounts you are using.

Your work standard looks excellent, I am jealous.

Hi Richard I?ve had the mounts for a while in a box not sure where they came from , but Kelvedon seem to sell some which look very similar

Brings back memories when I was at that stage of my rebuild (3 years ago). Looks good!

I am also wondering why you installed threaded bolts and washers over the water jacket plugs? I?ve never seen that before.

The engine mounts don't look fail-safe in the photos ?

If the centre bolt breaks the engine will fall out ?

On standard mounts, fixed the correct way upwards, if the rubber breaks the engine just drops an inch or so.

My engine builder also put in retaining screws/washers for the engine core plugs. Just some added protection for accidental popping out or leaking. I seem to recall reading somewhere that getting proper fitting core plugs can sometimes be a problem.

The engine builder (Dave Vegher) normally builds high revving, high output twinks so may have some experience where these plugs might have been problematic and leaking.

I also note that there are core plug retention plates sold for a number of engines, so other people are concerned about this.

Might be viewed in the same way safety wire is used for added "insurance". Note the safety wire used on the alternator bracket.

I think a 7/16 bolt has quite a good shear capability , worse case if it does it can sit on the chassis cross membet

Shaun,

Thanks for the reply. I have seen the Kelvedon offering, but did not recognise it on your engine.

Still jealous,

In chillier climes core plugs are supposed to act as a 'safety valve' if the antifreeze doesn't do its job.....

Never seen retainers before.

Bizarre!
