oil pump end plate O ring

I've been slowing attacking the oil leaks on my engine and one of them is, I'm suspecting, is the oil pump
end plate. I've removed the end plate and removed the 'O' ring and see its cross section is oval. Now
I'm wondering if this 'O' ring's cross section should be round and the ovalness is a result of decades of
being squished?

So, is this O ring trashed? Or should be oval in the first place? I couldn't find one on the Burton site
and now wonder who would carry one of these.

They always become a little squashed with use. You can obtain them from any industrial bearing supplier. They are nitrile O rings 45 x 3.5mm. It's somewhat odd that they are metric but that's the correct size.

Hi

I had a similar problem on the crossflow engine in my Lotus 7. I found that the local Ford dealer still had them in stock and the Ford Part Number I believe was 6675110 they were 45.5mm ID by 3.5mm thickness (on my Micrometer)

Hope this helps best of luck

Bob

I'm not certain if I remember this correctly but I seem to recall someone discovering that they are the same as the Misab plate O rings...?

Perhaps someone could confirm or deny...
