Heres a photograph of my Exhaust Y piece. It is obviously oriented in a particular direction, but does it fit orientated UP or DOWN??

Oh Dear!
I just banged my new one in anyhow, assuming it made no difference as I hadn't looked at it closely enough!
I guess you've got two ways and the correct way will be the one that fits best with the rest!
I had to get the smaller pipes eased by the local 'blacksmith' to get it onto the downpipes.

I'm not convinced that it was designed with an offset.
So having one may or may not help the overall fit.
It'll be interesting to hear how nicely it all goes together in due course.

Whilst I had the Manifold on the engine bolted up tight before i stripped it again to relieve the chassis / down pipe potential clash, I fitted the Y piece without any trouble at all, it slid easily over the down pipes as if made for the job!!!! And it would go on either way up! Again, bear in mind that these are original parts from the car in the day, merely refurbished and ceramic coated.
I could do a close up photo to show the surface pitting if required!
I shuold have noted orientation when I stripped it of course!!!

I noticed on my car the down pipes pointed slightly up towards the bottom of the car, so i fitted the Y with the angle correcting that.

Couldn't tell you if this is right or wrong but i know the mid pipe fits better that way on my car.

That sounds reasonable to me, ill check the down pipe angle when i fit it all back.

Finally got around to properly fitting my entire exhaust system. As you say Chris, the "Y" piece appears to have the slight bias to align the slight downward cant of the exhaust manifolds, and seems to be designed to give adequate clearance of chassis members in that area. The centre pipe is fiddly to get into position to mate with the twin back box i am using, but eventually fell into place. The lowest part of the system is the "Y" section at the rear of the twin back boxes. I got it as high as I could, then fabricated a bracket fro SS sheet to enable a U clamp to mate up with the foreward boot hanger used on the single box system. Seemed to work quite well.

The tail pipes look really smart.
The second photo of your bespoke bracket isn't that clear though.

Here you go Mark, hope thats better. I used Stainless steel, thin section to give spring and flex to the system. really simple, flat plate pre drilled and then bent to shape. Made a model first to get the shape and holes right.
