Tilton Super Starter

PostPost by: Davidb » Mon Jun 05, 2017 11:03 pm

My S2 came with a Tilton Superstarter and it works fine. However, during the recent rebuild I fitted it the way it came--ie with the solenoid in the down position. I noticed this puts the battery cable post very close to the removable cross member--should it be in the upright position? It looks like it would work but I would have to grind a little off the engine mounting on the chassis...

Just to wrap this up--I called Dave Bean Engineering who sell the Super Starter I realised last night. Ken told me that yes, the starter sits upside down because if it is fitted with the solenoid on top the top mounting bolt is almost unusable-it requires an Allen head bolt and a flexi-drive. So I am leaving mine upside down but I moved the cross member slightly so that if it is hit it will not make contact with the terminal on the starter!
