My +2 has always had the Peco mild steel back box on and i find it perfect volume and a good roundness to the note (if that makes sense) the only down side is it looks a bit odd.
Library picture for those who don't know the Peco box.

My Sprint on the other hand has had two exhausts fitted, an old Chris Neil Stainless system front to back which i didn't like (sounded too Tinny / raspy and i had issues with the Manifold putting too much heat into the clutch slave/Alternator)... now i have a Ceramic coated Manifold with Mild steel centre section and 2 seater Peco back box.... That has the right note but a touch too loud (2 seater Peco Box fits like a glove on my foot, pita to make fit well)

My +2 has always had the Peco as well and I know exactly what you mean regarding the "roundness to the note." That's why I'll clean it up and retain it even with the total rebuild and zetec conversion. Actually there are two downsides though. The Peco also weighs a ton, but I'll keep it. It's still in great shape.

I've never had a stock +2 exhaust to compare it too....... That said i have three fire extinguishers (2x 1kg and the one in the boot is 3kg) so lightness isn't my no1 priority :D

If there was one thing that made me move away from polished Stainless exhausts thats the heat..... As an example i can get my hand to about 10mm comfortably from my Ceramic coated manifold, 25mm from the Non ceramic coated mild steel +2 manifold and 70mm with the polished stainless...... The stainless system would put out so much heat it bubbled the paint on my boot floor. Looked nice though......

i'm running a stock mild steel box now on an otherwise SS system .it was NOS off ebay few years back.
Up until my shell rebuild I was quite happy with the SS box i got off Susan Miller but she mentioned she thought the ss system was more tinny sounding.
So i've only had a few months comparison but i've noticed the mild steel box is quite a bit louder/ boomier until you get to 70mph than the SS one .
I still have the SS box and im very mindful of what has just been said about heat radiation from SS......... 'cos i've got the box very close to the bootfloor in places! .
I'm really keeping it for the inevitable time when the mild steel box is no more....

Rich, does your +2 have the aluminum/fiberglass/aluminum sandwich between the silencer and the boot four?

Might help with the heat.

I like the sound of the TTR exhaust. It has a nice rumble.
