Thanks Bill, that's what I was thinking

I was going to try a bit of light scraping first to see how easily it comes off. I it's stubborn then the sanding route it will have to be. Not sure how confident I would be in the rag keeping out the bits if I'm sanding though so I guess the cover will come off for that
