I recently bought a S4 Elan, and am in the process of re-commissioning it for the summer
It has some history to the car ( and a thick wad of bills !)
it was a nut and bolt rebuild by the late lotus Guru Mick Miller and appeared on the from cover of lotus news in Jan 2008
it ha s only done around 3500 miles since the rebuild and so after some fettling I had a buddy put it on a rolling road at a well regarded specialist in Sussex , England
I'm in Iraq at the moment so can hardly pop into the garage and dig the guy in the ribs for a 101 course in Rolling road stuff, though they did say it was "OK"
is this OK for a S4 Elan? I believe it has absolutely standard engine
appreciate any received wisdom ! IF Ok I can start to think about upgrades
thanks

as stated it does not look bad to me, possibly a bit lean at high revs (though CO2 is not as indicative of combustion as lambda/AFR) - noting that the air corrector has already been changed in that direction, but main jet is not indicated. Also the run was stopped a tad before the red line at 6500... If tuned for road use fuel economy that looks fine, if you're after the last HP this engine configuration can offer you may want to check what main jets have already been tried (possibly emulsion tubes), in case a slightly different combination may help keeping up at high revs (at the expense of fuel economy).

Thankyou
As you can imagine i am new to the Elan world, so its good to know my engine is likely to be healthy!
Will enjoy for the summer and then decide wether to opt for a higher but reliable road spec for the engine , sort of sprint plus a bit more ( after a brake upgrade ) Is what I am thinking but this forum sure fires the imagination...
I gather from this forum Miles Wilkins at Fibreglass Services is One of the go to men for Elans & he is nearby in Arundel so thats a bit of luck.
This really is a usefull site!

Thanks Graeme
Doing all this by proxy from abroad isn't the best thing. Take your point about CCK in fact Paragon, The Porchse indy whom i know very well reccomended them very highly.
When i bought it the brief road test wasnt good at all , my buddy did say it feels like a ( completely) different car since the carb rebuild and rolling road sessions so it all starting to look right at last. Cant wait to drive it again
Am in Lewes btw.
