701M L block question

PostPost by: rgh0 » Fri Feb 03, 2017 1:28 pm

Yes LAA or LA blocks had thicker walls at the top end of the normal range based on the primitive measurement possible with specialist calipers through the casting core holes. Not many LA or LAA blocks to be found these days and cost is high but many more blocks from standard non L blocks can be found to meet that standard with modern ultrasonic bore thickness surveys and they are much cheaper. The blocks show no statistical difference in range of bore wall thickness from early 116E blocks to last 701M blocks. its all about statistical variation in the manufacturing technique which did not change from early Sixties to mid 70's

cheers

It took a while as he is involve in motorsport, but it was worth the wait as his work is excellent.

Now is time to put everything together.

tbh: he's also my man!! the only difference is: i wanted to have my new head WITHOUT paint, as I prefer just having the block in ENTHUSIAST's GREY!! --------y------ maybe it's my professional backround and my interpretation of esthetics: P L U S: PAINT COVERS EVERYTHING!!     sandy -- NS likes it, as we see!

To be honest i just send him my twink head and i just asked him for a proper gas flow, big valve head with 420 cams good for 150hp for my escort twin cam :D

I will have my mechanic build my lotus engine in the next 2 months as i'm still waiting for dave beans modular water pump kit.

I will then run in/set up the engine in a flow bench.

just came back to give you a few updates for my engine build.

Did it finish? NOT YET

At least now i got all parts needed together and Graham from PENGUIN MOTORS in UK is building it at the moment.

It tool for ever as we found a few issues with conrod/piston length so i decided to go all steel and i got a 1600 steel crank from ikengineering and custom con-rods.

If you would like to see the build with pictures you can see them in http://www.turbosport.co.uk. I think you need to register and then search for lotus/ford twin cam.

or if possible just copy and paste http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread. ... ight=lotus

Hope you enjoy.

It is being a while, but i finally got my engine results from the dyno.

I got my target 154hp at 6500 rpm.

Torque curve looks nice and flat 8)

I would of made 160+hp on 45's, but the bottom end power would of been rubbish.
