It's settled then, blue for the waterways and red for oil ways. Thanks!

I'm on the second coat of blue (over white primer for Aluminum) and I like the color for the water ways. It really stands out. I had experimented with careful brushing as well as taping to prevent getting paint on the flat cut areas and determined it was much easier just to remove the excess paint afterwards with lacquer thinner. So some over brushing in areas are evident, but soon to be removed.

Here is where I am so far. All the water ways are painted blue. I'm still deciding on painting the oil ways red. Not sure if I want to do it to the entire head that way, maybe only one part of the head.

Head has safely arrived at its new home in Australia. To be displayed under the print of the cutaway twin cam engine. Maybe I will put them in my beach house with the Elan chassis light fitting above it to complete the set of Lotus art work

It's had a long journey from Nick in the UK to Glen in the USA and now to Australia. Looking closely at the head if that is one Nick scrapped I would certainly buy a "good one" from him. I have rebuilt and raced for many years with much worse heads that this

cheers
Rohan

I came across this thread while looking for some other information and thought I would complete it by showing the sectioned head in its new place of display in my house in Melbourne. I comes in handy especially when getting out the Dremel and carbide bits to work on ports and combustion chambers as it enables me to envisage whats behind where I am grinding in addition to doing ultrasonic thickness measurements.

cheers
Rohan

I missed this thread first time around.

I guess you don't get to look inside a casting that often, but the complexity of the design is far greater than I had anticipated.

Thanks to all those involved in posting these pictures.
