Dave,
I got a set of rubber heater elbows from UK Ebay. Took a while for a set to appear, just have to persevere and check every week.
You could give this company a call http://www.vehicleheaters.co.uk/index.html as they supply replacement heater matrix for the Elan and they may be able to help you track some down.
Please keep us all informed as to your progress.
Regards,
Colin. 68' S4.

Gentlemen,

I had problems with these too,

In the end I repaired / rebuild the remains with a puncture repairkit from my bike + pieces of rubber.
The result was excellent .

I thought Moss Motors part number 635-520 ( 68-70 MGBs) for was the same, Just received them & they are too big ;-( They are like scaled up versions, Lotus part OD is 1 1/2", MG is 2".

I really need at least one of these... Anyone please?

Phil

If you don't manage to find the correct size is there room on the housing to open out the holes to 2 in diameter? Just a thought.

Phil,

Are you sure about 1 1/2"? The air vent nozzles beside the dashboard are 1 1/4" O/D.

I fitted new air vent hoses last year (a pig of a job with the dash in situ) and they were 1 1/4" I/D.

Nick, 1 1/2" is the largest diameter of the flange on the Elbow fitting, it fits into a 1 1/4" hole in the heater box. The OD on the elbow where the flex tube slides on is also 1 1/4" which matches with your dimension of the hose being 1 1/4" ID.

The MG elbow is made for 1 5/8 - 1 3/4" hole in the heater box.

Can't imagine replacing with the dash being in situ!

I could make the hole in the heater box larger for the MG elbow, but the hole is very close to where the pipes run in the box & then I'd need to reduce for the flexible pipe.

The search continues... google is your friend...

Jaguar BD23569 (s/s BD14607) looks right? - https://www.terrysjag.com/product/BD23569.html

SNG Barrett has it as well - https://www.sngbarratt.com/us/#!/English/parts/762a376a-8206-4c56-9798-f902c0d91361

Called SNG Barrett, it takes a 1 1/4" ID vent hose... Sounds promising so I have ordered 2... will update after I see if they are correct.

So the Jaguar elbow takes the 1 1/4" hose on the inside of the fitting, it's actually close to 1 1/2" OD

So here's my collection that I've purchased compared to what I'm try to match:
heaterelbows_ugh.jpg and
From top, MG, Jaguar & Lotus Smith's heater elbows

Just to confuse everyone I placed the Jaguar (by SNG Barrett ) on the Moss bag & the MG elbow (from Moss) on the SNG Barrett bag!

I've exhausted Google at this point & willl have to come up with something inventive... watch this space...

Phil,

How flexible are these things? How about slicing the 1 1/2" elbow joint along it's length (around the bend), removing a strip from it, and then gluing it back together to create a 1 1/4" elbow?

The result might not look too pretty but one end would be held together by the hole in the heater and the other end by the air hose.

Of course, 1/4" diameter makes quite a difference in circumference so you might need to cut the elbow along both the inside and outside and remove a couple of strips. Either way, it might be possible to make a reasonably neat job that would be perfectly functional.
