Cosworth Mk 16 engine & Modern Counterpart
The L1s are drilled, we're waiting on a new tap, have new steel buckets on hand.
I'll try to ascertain whether the new followers already have a phosphate coating on them, they look like they may well have been nitrided.

Steel followers will have been ntrided for hardness. Phosphate treatment leaves a very thin gray layer on the surface that wears off during the initial run in
cheers

Have had to scrape the top lip of two of the inlet side follower sleeves to remove bruises so as to get the new followers in - am ensuring the old ones will go back in before easing the new ones in again.

Have tapped the cams 70 mm deep, to the front edge of the first lobe, that has me making the bolts 83mm UHL, that gives 1mm of free thread in the exhaust cam with standard retaining washer and spring washer. I've also slimmed the heads of the bolts by a bit over 1mm to ensure they don't foul the cam cover.

Question/Query ....... Don't you also have to slot the bolt from the groove you machined to the end to allow the oil to flow into the cam shaft gallery to feed the other bearings along the cam?
Do you happen to know what colour the blocks of Cosworth Twin Cams were painted?
Cheers

Plan to centre drill next week when I'm front of a lathe.
The blocks were Cosworth Maroon - the original paint can still be seen on the one in this thread. Timing chest & head green & cam cover blue.

The crankshaft gallery plugs from the Laystall crank went walkabout. I "found" a set of 3/8 BSP ones, which were too big (they may be out of the Holbay / Laystall crank) - 5/8 unf screw in easily, but I suspect the galleries may actually suit 3/8 NPT pressure plugs......

3/8 NPT it is! I intend to loctite them in with Loctite 272 - any ideas on a suitable tightening torque?
