Maybe it will work maybe it will not I guess you will find out and like you say it only time and labour and you have plenty of that. Corvettes and dragsters are a very different proposition

However i have seen people struggle to get new Cometics to seal on a twin cam, let alone used ones. I posted a few more comments in the separate thread you posted on this.

I have had a Cometic MLS head gasket on my Elan for the past few thousand miles and no problem. I used it because I had 11.7:1 compression and the gasket lowered it to 10.7:1

Hi David
I presume you used an extra thickness gasket with more layers in it. Potentially the extra layers will have increased the gasket flexibility and made sealing easier compared to the standard thickness gasket

Rohan: Yes that was the reason but I seem to think that Sandy has the same problem of too high compression-didn't he say that on one of his posts?

Slightly off topic. Can the head be resurfaced without disassmbly of valves, springs etc.? Seems the shavings would be a problem.
Thanks :)

i guess not chris, because you couldn't get the entire surface - but if everything worked before, it's not that much of a task to take the cams etc. out - maybe 2 hrs incl reassembly sandy
