Thanks for the pictures Rohan, it seems the Bosch distributor is used by a number of people. However mine is a Lucas with side entry as per photo's below. I think also that the internals have been modified as the engine was dyno'd at 143bhp. If I understand correctly, the Lucas distributor you are showing is approximately 15mm taller overall than the Bosch when the caps are fitted, is that correct ?
John, I believe most of the caps for the 45D4 had a provision for either clips or screws, fro what I can see, although mine has clips the rest of the cap appears unmodified.
It seems from the information so far that there were likely to be three different bodied used,
1. Lucas 23D4
2. Lucas 45D4
3. Bosch

Tony, Yes the body has provision for the clips and screws but the side entry cap does not. Grooves for the clips to locate in have been cut after manufacture. I notice in your pic that you are using tyraps to keep the top on, my dizzy does not need tyraps because grooves have been cut.
Cheers
John.

Yes I use the tiewraps as a security measure as I don't have provision for the screws as I mentioned earlier. The grooves in the cap are not as good as I would like and I want to make sure the cap is held squarely on the distributor and not end up chewing the inside of the cap.
Quite a number of the side entry caps I have seen have been manufactured with grooves and holes so you can use on distributord with clips or screws depending on what you have fitted.

Thanks Rohan
It now makes more sense as to why they changed from the original Lucs 23D4 as that extra height would make getting the cap off quite awkward
Tony
Thanks to all for the input
