S4 Autosparks dash loom

I think I am pushing my luck here!
I have successfully wired up the front and rear looms but have a problem with the dash loom. I am colour blind so am relying on my wife to label cables for me but we cannot find where the indicator cables come out of the loom to be able to connect from the column. These are the Green/white and Green/red leads.
We can see them at both ends of the loom, but cannot locate where the steering column leads connect to them.
Am I being stupid here because it should be relatively simple surely?
Can anyone help me with this one?

Peter

I’m not sure I have correctly understood your question, as you say that you can see the relevant wires “at both ends of the loom“.
If in fact you cannot see them in the vicinity of the steering column, then you need to locate the two bunches of wires which come out of the dash loom pretty much together.
One of these bunches goes to the ignition switch, and the other to the column switches. I have indicated this bunch in the photo below, and you should find what you are looking for there.
Hope this helps.
Ian

I also don't really understand the question. There is no "where", they just join the corresponding wires from the column switch via bullet connectors. This thread might help though. Good luck, I know what it's like to have eyesight problems.

Thank you both for replying.
I am afraid that I now feel rather stupid. I had assumed tht the bunch of wires you mention Ian, connected to the rear loom, so I had not asked my wife to colour identify.
Now I see, both rear loom and dash loom go into the engine loom, and the bunch of wires in question are all that I need.
So simple when you get rid of preconceived ideas!
Many thanks to both for taking the time to assist me, I say it again, what a brilliant forum!

My turn now with questions regarding the Autosparks S4 dash harness. My car is a late '68 negative earth.

On the back of the tacho (RVI 2410/04) there is the small coiled wire (white/green). From the new harness there is a white 14/030 wire (with bullet terminal) which tests to where it exits into the engine bay, and then to the coil (I've by-passed the anti theft switch). Also from the harness there is a second white 14/030 wire. This one tests to the ignition switch T2. For some reason the second wire is about one metre long and has no end terminal. Looking at the wiring diagrams on here I assume that both white wires connect to the loop wire on the back of the tacho, but I can't work out why Autosparks would supply with an un-terminated extra long wire. Any ideas?

There is an earth wire with a large ring terminal that is obviously the main earth via the chassis bobbin. There is also a second earth wire, about 12" long and from the 6-way earth bullet connector, with a medium sized (8mm) ring terminal. Would this be for a radio (if fitted)?

I can't find an earth wire for the cigar lighter. I'll probably use the redundant anti-theft earth. Any reason why not? It's a repro cigar lighter minus the lamp so just the earth and purple feed. Is that correct? I'll probably plug in a Voltmeter/USB rather than the lighter.

The earth's (for the gauge lamps) in the harness are not really as per the wiring diagram but I think I can resolve that problem.

Anything else that others have had to do to their Autosparks "standard" harness?

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike

Sorry for delay in replying, have been fitting a new dishwasher.
My car is a 1968 S4 negative earth so the same as yours. I bought the three harnesses from Autosparks and with the help of forum members I have sorted most of the problems.
I have a coiled up white wire clipped to a plastic bag with a male bullet in. No other long white wire. I have wired in the security switch.
As I don’t live far from Autosparks I popped in to ask what the coiled white wire was for. Unfortunately they are not experts on individual cars, which, looking at the list of cars for which they make looms makes sense.
They just use a pattern and leave it at that, so they could not help apart from saying it probably feeds the tacho!
I have since worked out it must feed the tacho but why so long with a male bullet?
More knowledgable members seem to have no problems with the looms but I find some of the wires are too short, to the tacho for example, but this may just be my incompetence.
As a matter of interest, where have you mounted your indicator flasher unit, and have you fitted the voltage stabiliser to the back of the tacho?
Sorry I’m not much help.
Peter
