Elan & +2 Elan use different motors, the Elan uses a 2 wire motor the +2 uses a 3 wire motor.
I don’t know if all + 2’s use a 3 wire motor as this type is more often found in older vehicles where a two directional operation is required. I think this is why people report improvement in operation when the ‘ earth ‘ connection part of the circuit with 3 wire motors is upgraded.
When the permanent magnet field motors arrived, that reverse direction simply by changing the polarity of the applied voltage, the power hungry an heavy 3 wire motors were dropped.
Re, Window Motor Current, the total friction within the system has a significant effect on the power required for operation. I found a big difference in the current drawn by a motor just by a clean out and old grease replaced. Friction caused by old operating cable that has become stiff should be replaced by new highly flexible multi-stand Stainless steel, in my opinion the stuff supplied by usual sources can easily be surpassed. Correct size glass runner felt is essential, half a mm too small can make a huge difference in power needed and speed of operation.

But that circuit should definitely work. {NB. it doesn't have the safety aspect mentioned below).

That's a modern safety requirement to stop kids getting their hands crushed by the windows.

My Sprint 1972 go down Ignition off, ignition On for Up.
My 1973 +2S 130 ignition On to go Up or Down.
No logic why they should be different BUT then they are Lotus

I pulled out the motor from one of my doors - the one that did not work. Two things: The grease had totally caked up and oddly, the thermal cut out was burnt out.

I stripped it down, cleaned it up and bypassed the cut off. It works an absolute treat on the bench. I had in mind to re-install it and insert a stand alone cut off module in the power wire, but not so sure I really want to do this, so it is a new one.

I do not see winder motors listed with SJ or Sue Miller. Does anyone know the part number or which model Anglia the motor is from - all I can see stamped on the casing is Deco Remmy Ohio US. The motor has a square casing and is a two wire.

Appreciate any help!

You may have the Delco motor in your Elan. It is not a Ford wiper motor to my knowledge. It is a square casing with earth to the body and TWO spade connectors for wires on the bottom of the unit which go to separate field coils. That is why there could be confusion on the function of the earth connection. I believe these were fitted to later plus 2's and most Europa's

I did wnder about the Anglia bit. I picked this up from other searches, but calling it up on ebay, all Anglia motors are Lucas albeit very similar to the Delco and may very well fit.

Now, the Cardone part number given by Stu is now a tailgate motor! Rock Auto have these at 80 bucks but only as a refurb item I shall call them on Monday...

Now that it is established these are from US GM cars, I see loads on ebay.com. I cannot imagine Lotus buying from the US, so I wonder what UK car used this motor?

Yep, that is the exact motor! And worth investigating as all I need is the thermal switch. These motors are pretty bullet proof inside (apart from the cut-off maybe...) so if I could get one for £20 would be ok, except I see someone else is also bidding...! Let us see!

I found a pair of new motors in the US reduced to 90 bucks. Maybe another 25 to pay on tax and duty plus shipping. I think quite a good price to replace both motors...

Whilst waiting for these, I can replace the window channel felts - question, can the felt channels be replaced on a +2 with the window and frame in situ?
