Lucas C40L Generator Bearing

PostPost by: Evante » Sat Sep 19, 2020 11:58 pm

Hi All,

I was refurbishing my Lucas Generator (C40L) and noticed that the bearing is binding at one spot. I decided to replace it. Does anyone know a supplier in the US for these bearings?

Thanks in advance,

Jay S.

I imagine you mean the Oil Lite Bush at the rear.
You can use the parts for a C40 which is on many British Cars e.g. MGB or Austin or Ford.
At Moss for example.

Something has probably gone wrong with reassembly if it's binding. A worn rear oilite bearing won't cause binding. If required the front roller bearing is just a standard roller type readily available for industrial bearing suppliers. Not normal for them to cause binding either even if worn.

Are you trying to rotate it with the brushes installed or without? The pressure on the comm can make rotation feel a bit lumpy.

Sorry, it is actually the bearing in the front of the generator.

Thanks,

Very common and cheap. Get the number off bearing and google. Might be 6203??

Attached is a pdf of the Lucas/Girling/CAV catalog of bits for Ford from 1965, that includes the C40L generator and the part numbers for the bits inside. May be helpful in finding your bearing.

EDIT - pdf was too large, so have attached a screenshot of the correct section.

Thanks Henry,

I ultimately went the alternator replacement route.

Hi, I would be interested in taking a look into that PDF, at least to see the full page ... I did search for that PDF but did not find it (other than on those obscure web sites asking for credit card details ), could you pass it to me ?

Gherit - I recently shared it to be put in the download section of the USA7s new site:

https://usa7s.net/ips/files/category/28-ecu-electrical/

You should be able to find and download both 1965 and1969 catalogs at that site.
