new plug lead?

PostPost by: checkrail » Wed Jul 15, 2020 12:12 pm

HI, Having just bought a Synchrometer and Gunson Colourtune, after using them as per instructions, my Plus 2 would not accelerate past 2'500 rpm without a really bad misfire which was I'm sure electrical.
Thought I would use the Colourtune again and using it on no.2 cylinder there was a crack from the plug well and using a screwdriver on the mixture screw another crack/short.
It idles fine, but can't give it a proper road test because of the misfire.

I have standard leads, new NGK's and new dizzy cap. Thanks for suggestions. John.

Hi John,

on Webers?

What amount of advance are you using?

how was it running prior to your changes?

Thanks
Iain

This issue may be related to John's earlier problems getting the engine running....

HI Iain, It's a S130 on Webers with QED 420 cams fitted by previous owner, according to the paperwork I have quote 'timing about 24 degrees @ 2500 rpm slightly retarded'...

It was running fine before all the Accuspark / ignition problems, please see all my previous posts.
I have ordered a new set of plug leads.

Regards John

Hi John,

Ok thanks I’m up to speed now, I just read the trail that oldelanman gave us.

Your issue seems to start on Jun 20th when you wrote:

“Hi, Whilst trying to sort the tickover on my \webers I foolishly left the ignition on, resulting in a non starter'....”

You don’t sound fully confident that issue is fixed yet? I think you need a second pair of eyes on the problem, a competent auto electrician should be able to diagnose and recommend a fix to allow you to move on.
