Silicon chip DIY electronic ignition kits

As a result of recent discussions on this forum I have attached below for reference the constructional details for two Silicon Chip electronic ignition designs. Although somewhat old now they are both very good. The first is a very cheap and reliable non programmable design and the second is a fully programmable design with optional MAP and knock sensing (equal to a 123). Unfortunately due to being older designs it may now be difficult to obtain them as full kits however component parts should still be available. The critical unique components however - PCB's and programmed micro controllers should still be available from Silicon Chip magazine directly.

I've previously built the non-programmable design and can swear by it's performance and reliability. It's ridiculously cheap and furthermore you can still use point triggering if you want to making it dead easy to bypass the system on the side of the road in the unlikely event of a failure. The points last forever and rarely need adjusting when used in this way because they switch only a very small current.

Their only disadvantage (apart from having to assemble them yourself) is that they are housed in separate boxes rather than the distributor itself. Some may find that a bit unsightly.

(P.S the file sizes are too large for me to post. If you are interested please send me a PM)

Edit: Note link here for the non-programmable version. See page 10

Hmmmm, interesting idea! I'm quite good with a soldering iron (trained by the US Army Signal School!), so this might be fun to try.
