Quick Wiring Question

I am about to install new wiring loom in engine bay and dash on my 72 sprint.
When looking at a box of old parts I found this resistor which must have been taken off the car back in 2009.
Initially I thought it might be a ballast resistor but it doesn’t look like the pictures of ballast resistor I have seen on the forum. I also can’t find these colours coming together in an S4 wiring diagram.
Also I can’t see what model my old coil is (all paint worn off) but it has a resistance of 3.3 ohms which I think means no ballast resistor coil.
Can anyone identify this please - it may be an aftermarket part ?
Many thanks
Chris

That's the fan motor resistor for the low speed setting. For comparison here's how I found mine when I overhauled my heater box:

If you have your dash out, now is the time to overhaul the heater :D

Many thanks - I saw that a green/yellow wire went to the heater motor but there is no mention about the resistor on the wiring diagram. As you say another job to tackle :D
That also clears up my problem about which coil to buy
Thanks again
Chris

Chris,

I think Phil is correct, what you have looks rather like the resistor inside my heater.

Indeed!

But be ready for everything to go against you here!

The fan motor is pretty well un-obtainable now. There are similar ones available, but be careful, they are just a little larger and hit the bulkhead when re-installed. It seems that all the correct ones are in the USA at anything from £100 a pop!

The matrix poses problems of unavailabilty as well, but here a tip - cotact Andy at [email protected] who has an equivalent off the shelf that fits perfectly. £120!!
