Ignition Key

Hello All, I am trying to source a replacement ignition key for my +2S130/5. I have the later (GT6) steering column and the original WASO Key, I would like to get a second key cut to match the original. I have bought an ignition key blank from a Lotus Specialist, but it is not correct, the form in the key is mirrored and so won't work. Does anyone know where I might be able to get a correct key blank from? Thanks a lot, Jonathan

In the absence of any of the specialists coming up with the correct key you might try:

https://keysinthepost.com

They supplied me with a perfect fit new key for my late 60's US spec Yamaha motorcycle.

If you have the key number, FS, FA, etc, there is someone on ebay who will cut one for a Fiver.
Search - classic car keys. Waso blanks appear also.
Have you tried your local Timpsons, they are good on car keys.

Hello All, thanks for the quick replies! Eric, good shout on trying Timpsons, I wouldn't have thought of that! There doesn't seem to be a code on the key but I will try the e-bay idea first, then Timpsons(!), then British Car Keys and Keys in The Post. Thanks again, superb help!! Jonathan

Hi Jonathan

You might like to try these people

https://www.replacementkeys.co.uk/

and there is another firm near Bournemouth that I have used in the past but I have lost the details.

Hi There Mike, Thank you, I'll try them. I just found the Bournemouth company but they have to have my key at their place in order to sort it out, so thats just dropped down the priority as I'm a fair way form Bournemouth! Thanks a lot, Jonathan

I think i used "keysinthepost" , you choose the correct blank and take a photo of the key you have. Very easy no problem

Hi All, Thanks for your help. I'm sorted. I put classic car keys into e-bay and found two sellers Yorkscavr and Swampys-old-skool, both these guys know their keys inside out and have located the right blank for me, so I bought one from each.

I guess there may be different key shapes from the same lock supplier, but mine is a February '73 built car (although not registered until December '73!) and the chassis number is 73021165L , it has the GT6 steering column with the column switch and a WASO barrel/lock/key. The WASO reference for the key is WAS1 or FR, the key that the Lotus Specialist supplied me was WAS1R where the R seems to stand for Reversed as the 'ward' (i.e. the grooves down the length of the key) pattern is mirrored or reversed. Both the e-bay specialists told me without prompting that the FR or WAS1 is correct for the late +2's.

So, I know know a lot more about ignition keys and the terms used in keys/locks!! Every day is a school day :), plus I should soon have a spare key for my car (It cost about £5 by the way).

Thanks again all, Jonathan
