Lucas Indicator/Dip/Horn column switch +2

PostPost by: Gopherit » Wed Feb 06, 2019 5:57 pm

I am having more difficulty than I anticipated sourcing a replacement switch as per the title. It is a Lucas switch, body moulding has "SA 611" and the length of the cranked stalk, measured directly is 180mm/7" approx. 9 wires from the switch.
This is from an early +2, 1967.
Similar switches are on the net for Land Rovers in particular but difficult to tell if they are correct.

Anybody know a source?

I think this will work for you.
------------------------------------------------------
1 x SWITCH-INDICATOR,HORN & HEADLAMPS-MK2/3 ('69-'75) (13H7779) = ?25.50
------------------------------------------------------
Sub-Total: ?25.50
Delivery (Standard Delivery - UK mainland only up to 30KG MAX.): ?5.95 UK Vat: ?5.10
Total: ?36.55
From somerfordmini.co.uk

Took me ages to track it down.

John -
Many Thanks. Only one question having visited the website, is the stalk length close to the dimensions I gave? Difficult to judge from the diagram, but looks shorter.

Well, it seems ok on mine although I have a slightly small wheel than standard, but to be honest I tried all the usual suppliers and drew a blank. I think I tracked this down by finding the Lucas part no. stamped somewhere on the old unit (very small). The wiring colours do not (as I recall) correspond to the Lotus colours but of course they never do.

Have a look at a Ford Cortina Mk2 indicator stalk, I'm pretty sure that was what was on my early Plus 2.
I'm not sure if the electrical connector block just plugs into the loom or if you'll need to replace the plug.

thats the one I used too......
although it needed bending a bit as when in the normal dipped beam position I used to catch my knuckles on it......
but it was 2nd hand.....so could have been bent when I got it........

I bought one from Rimmer Bros, p/n 589884P1, Indicator-Horn & Dip Stalk-RH side of column-RHD. Made by Lucas, it is somewhat shorter than yours (depends on exactly where one measures from), as well as my old one, but I measure it at 165 mm...also, the arm has no "dogleg" to it, it's just a straight arm. Depiction on Rimmer Bros web site is accurate,

21.50 GBP + freight

nine wires as follows:
green w/ white trace
blue
blue w/ red trace
blue w/ white trace
purple
green w/ red trace
black (larger than others, coming from center of switch)
brown w/ black trace (also from center of switch

Not yet installed, but I am hopeful that it will either work or I can make it work. I am not too concerned about shorter length, in this case shorter is better than longer.

My old one is in pieces.

Bought my new one from a specialist electrical supplier at the classic car show at the NEC last year, still got the box somewhere in the garage, let me know if you still need details and I?ll try and find it. For info, if you have a smaller wheel, an original mini switch will fit and has a shorter stalk.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine!

Thanks to everyone who responded. I have now bought, and received today the following:

LAND ROVER SERIES 3 INDICATOR / HORN / DIP STALK SWITCH - 575383
Total: ?13.74
Item ID: 322870835153
Seller: recoveryuk4x4(4,835)
Off Ebay as you can no doubt tell, but seller was very good and responded to my questions. Also the price was VERY good - included delivery which has taken 2 days.
I hate using Ebay because of the use of PayPal - which I hate with a vengeance and don't trust them an inch but still have to give card details to them.

The stalk is 30mm shoter than my old one at 220mm centere to stalk tip cf 250 for the old one, but having measured my steering wheel at 340mm dia this is actually an advantage. All the wires bar one (9) are the same colour code which is also helpful.
Angle of crank is exactly the same as well.
