I need to put a new coil on my +2

Any recommendations?

At this point still running standard ignition system.

Are you planning to go to electronic ignition, if so would make sense to have a matched system. Also do you have the reduced voltage system with the resistor in the supply line, need to know this for recommending the right coil.

At this point in time I have no plans to go electronic ignition.

I have no idea if this is a low voltage system. Is there an easy way of confirming this?

Background -

I bought the car as a non runner. I am now at the point where I have checked all I can on the engine without starting it.

The last thing I need before I attempt a start is the coil.

As your car is an early model it is unlikely to have the ballast resistor requiring a 6 Volt coil. In any case, It can be bypassed so a 12 V coil can be used and it is one less thing to go wrong (I had a ballast resistor go high resistance on a late +2). Make sure the coil is an old pattern designed for contact breakers, classic car dealers will have them.

I have run 280,000 miles without electronic ignition and half the threads on this forum are about the problems with it. Perhaps an exaggeration but you will need to change or modify your tachometer and be negative earth too. Get the car running on standard and enjoy it, it was a simple car so why change what worked?
