Elan Sprint Philips Radio

PostPost by: silverlink » Sat May 05, 2018 10:09 am

Hi all,
Finally got my car on the road after 25 years! drove it for the first time the other day. I bought the car back in 1973 (1971 model) and back in the day put a cassette/radio in it. Of course as I'm sure many of you have done I disposed of the Philips radio that was in it and now want to put an original one back in again.
Can anyone tell me which Philips radio would have been fitted back then? and if so where might I purchase one.
I understand there are now company's that do a modified one suitable for todays radio transmissions.
Cheers

some cars had a Philips Turnolock, I just have the 22RN314 model which is very short and fits behind the crammed dash

but the 22RN513 model had FM built in

This is the FM version but you will be hard pressed to find a Turnolock these days although they very occasionally appear for sale on ebay. Jim

Mine had a Radiomobile 2 band push button.
We're these ever 'standard'?

A quick web search reveals that if you have ?400 spare then you can get a Turnolock.

I have a spare Turnolock radio. It needs some cosmetic restoration but in my experience there is always someone who will have the necessary parts. PM me if you're interested.

Radios were a dealer fitted extra, I clearly recall. The Sprint we have again now, I bought brand new and remember specifying my choice with a Motorola 8 track player. I knew the radio reception would be so poor even with those suppressor plates. It`s not there now and I can`t imagine how it would have fitted, but it did.
Simon and Garfunkel, the Carpenters, and mostly the Beach Boys, were favourites in my little deuce coupe. (That`s liddle doose coop to those with a Lodus Elarn !)
