Horn brush spring

The new one I got had far too much tension on it( overall length),it kept unseating centre horn push,I cut about 5mm off it,problem sorted,3 fingered Spring now located,horn tested,this car has standard lotus steering wheel with black horn push,I am normally locate to do this modification but it was doing my head in and I was sick of repositioning inner steering shaft to solve problem Without success ,anyone else come across this,73 model with collapse coloum

There are several different lengths for different vehicle applications ... sounds like you may have been sold the wrong one.
