Ignition Coil, original position with "Screening Plates"

Thx to all here I have managed to collect the 3 screening plates originally supplied in the RSK -"Radio Suppression kit" shown in the parts diagram below:

No problems fitting the shields behind the head & over the spark plug well, but where exactly do the coil & shield fit?

My coil is quite a bit further back, in fact in a similar position to this one shown on a RHD car which claims to be the original position:

There's not enough flat space to fit the coil screening plate here.

The one picture I have of the plate installed shows it in a similar position to the parts diagram close to the radiator:

Anyone have any recollection where the coil & plate were originally fitted on a Sprint?

I didn't bother fitting the coil shield on my Sprint which hasn't affected the reception on my Turnolock. But then I haven't any screening plates on my Europa Special or +2S130/5 and the Turnolock reception on those cars are fine without! Jim

My federal S4se has the screening plate kit (also, the ignition wires are/were braided in metal sleeves), but I'm not sure that setup was offered to non American cars, so there would not be a standard RHD version of it... My coil plate is just like shown on the first drawing, though could have been bent or moved a bit over the years and occasional engine swap (I can take a photo if you want next time I go to the workshop)

I don't have a radio and don't plan to fit one, but I remember futzing with the suppression plates on my old Elans many years ago. Eventually things worked, but not with any prizes.

The earlier reply about having the ignition leads in braided sleeves seems like a perfect solution. I saw these for the first time a few weeks ago on a friend's Jensen Interceptor. They look cool too (although not original, of course).

Radio suppression is not the issue / problem... my radio is perfectly fine; I want to know where they were to install as originally built & for documentation.

The main trick is to mount the aerial at the back, far from the engine and use shielded coax cable to connect the aerial to the radio.

I took all the plates off many years ago, but from memory the coil was mounted about where the manual shows. It was situated under the front carb where any fuel spill could drip on it. I like many others when they got their new cars moved the coil to the rad mounting/blanking plates (S4 with the narrow radiator).
I wish now that I had kept them for originality, but who was to know I would still have the car 48 years later.

I took a couple photos today, I'm pretty sure the front alloy plate is bolted where it was when I got the car (not new but about 20k miles), you can see the two nyloc nuts on the photo below, close to the bottom radiator nut - it was more or less bent at right angle if I recall correctly, though I bent it back so that I could have the fuel line on one side and the coil on the other.

The coil is now further back (you can see the wires to it on the next photo), I may have moved it there to improve access to the carbs, as there was room above the wheel arch (where racers put their oil breather catch)

Many thanks for those 2 pictures, let me see if I can find any old holes.

My coil is in the same position as yours.

Edit: I don't appear to have any holes around there that could be used to mount the plate or coil, so I'm inclined to think my coil is in it's original position & was fitted without the plate.

The Coil Screening plate will remain in my parts stash as a historical curiosity!
