mundane question

hi all
can someone please identify my alternator?

fitted by PO....stiill working ok, but sounds like it has a dry bearing.......

it does not look like the standard Lucas ACR 17, possibly an "uprated upgrade", see for example http://www.ratsport.com/PBSCProduct.asp?ItmID=9667761 (no endorsement or affiliation on my side)

It looks like a Bosch example as fitted to VW & Audi in the late 1980's and 1990s.
Unlike Lucas they were well built and reliable.

Looks more like a Bosch than a Lucas LRA100, I used on on a Zetec conversion and also on a all steel X/flow that literally ate Lucas alternators and starters finding just about every failure mode, much more robust.

Does not look like a Bosch to me, I have an 80's Bosch (from a VW Golf) on my S2 and its nothing like, looks more like a Motorola to me although some Motorola's had a separate regulator.

My vote is Hitachi, e.g., 4.2 Liter Nissan Diesel, 80 Amp. (Close but not same).

ok...thanks guys....
I can't see any numbers or distinguishing marks....so looks like I will have to remove and take it to an expert....

or just replace with lucas [!!!!! :lol: ]

ps....just checked on the notes that the PO left.....seems it came from a mini mayfair!!!??
