Ok People

Emergency advice needed - I'm at good wood revival next week and the drivers window is stuck in the down position.

How do I remove the window and the motor to test it?

Pictures so you can see what I see!!

You can see that I have removed two of the bolts but the motor does not want to move

Help needed - even if it is a short cut to get the window up.

So I managed to move it (was not applying sufficient elbow grease) and was able to get the wires off of the motor.

Quick check with a voltmeter shows that I am getting sufficient voltage to it (see below photos)

Voltage for down (blue red)

Voltage for up (blue yellow)

So therefore i assume that the motor has died?

So two questions

1. Where do I get a new motor - is it the usual suspects (Matt, Miller etc)
2. Could it be something else i.e. Over extension of the arm?
3. As I need to use the car next weekend is there a way I can get the window in the fully up position?

Just because you are getting " the right " voltage to it doesn't help....you need the current , a high resistance connection will still show a " good " voltage but will reduce the current so low that it will not work..

P.S are you measuring between the two wires OR one of the wires to earth ?

John

EDIT just re-read your post and it looks like you're measuring each wire to earth..

It's the earth (is t it always)

Fitted a wire from the earth on the motor to the earth lead in the engine bay and then it worked so just need a new earth lead and the reinstall.

Phew

John - yes was measuring each wire to a fresh earth

So thought I'd fixed it - however it only goes down half way? Any ideas?

It's just a motor that keeps rotating till you take your finger off the button , looks like you may have a problem with the fan shaped cog that lifts the arm...
