Assuming no radio is fitted, how is the radio blanking panel held in place, please?

two little 1 inch square pieces of wood on both ends that was glued on the dash and screwed into the face plate. At least that's how it is on my Europa, so assuming same routine.

I am assuming an Elan from your discussion profile and on mine there are two exposed screws that mount the blanking plate on to small extrusions of wood that are glued from behind the dash and the screws (British version of phillips wood screws, name escapes me) are seen from the front and maybe that's what Ted was describing. My current plus 2 had a plastic panel with a chrome edge . It had two push springs so that it fitted the slot. They looked a lot like those spring clips on glass picture frames.
My first elan had a new dash which came with a veneered panel for the slot !

Mine's the same as Ted's and Gordon's, on both my original and replacement dash. The blanking
plate has predrilled, beveled holes for the screws.

Glue 2 tabs, say thin ply, to the back of the dash and Velcro the plate to them.

Two lolly pop sticks glued vertically to the back of dash & blanking panel glued to them. Easy to just push out if you decide to fit a radio later :)

Thanks for all responses - the lollypop stick solution isn't too bad !

Nice & simple, plus I get to eat those lollies - any advice on best flavours? I'm kinda thinking Crunchie.....
